It is really not a melancholic thing not to be good at too
many things. In fact, in most cases it’s a blessing if you do the right thing with
what you have, even if it’s just one. Sometimes though, it’s about the
individual and how ambitious they are. Some people are very determined and are
never fulfilled until they are always at something new and achieving one big
thing after another. People like these end up developing abilities to do so
many things. And in reality, just any one can develop the ability to do
anything if they so desire. There’s no need beating yourself if you can’t. For
crying out loud, some of the most successful people I know in the world only
play football. And since success is
relative, some of the most successful people in the world don’t have as much
money as some of the most miserable people out there do.
If you’re like me, you might not be very good at many
things, but there’s something you are good at. Put a larger percentage of your
time and energy in it, and you’ll discover that the Joy of the little achievements
in that area of your passion will galvanize the energy you need to do the
complementary things you love, that are not within your strength zone. You must be selective if you will ever be
effective.
The challenge for some people is that they confuse activity
with productivity. I've seen people who because of a peculiar need in their
lives they immerse themselves in their work, and fail to realize they are
simply being defensive and leaving in denial with a subjective assumption for
productivity. The best use of your energy when there is a need is to find a way
to solve it.
The rule of the game is very simple: if you already know
your ability, and if you are not very self motivated, the best use of your
energy will be to spend time connecting with people whose energy level is very
high and are using it correctly in achieving great result. Energy is
contagious! Never walk alone, ‘Liverpool Club doesn't’.
You don’t have all the time in the world to be a jack of
every trade and master of none. Trial and error is not a viable option when it
comes to harnessing your energy. Leverage is simply the answer for the best use
of your energy.
In the first
instance, find the things you can do without external motivation, do them
consistently and it won’t be long you’ll be doing what looked impossible for so
long.
The law of leverage is at work when you use lesser effort to
achieve greater output. The best use of your energy will make you do the
impossible starting with the possible.
