Title: How Hungry Are You?
The next edition of The Platform Nigeria, holds October 1st,2014 at The Covenant Place, Iganmu,(Beside National Theatre), Lagos. 9am.
The Theme is: National Development through Business, (the Rule of Law and Building Right Institutions.)
Lately, I have written so much about entrepreneurship, and the imperative need to live your life doing something your heart absolutely agrees with.
The simplest way to do that is to follow your hunger for meaning in life. Don't live your potential massive life at the mercy of a pay cheque.
One thing that stands 'The platform' out of too many National Development Conferences is that Pastor Poju Oyemade has a rare insight in choosing the Speakers. Always, the speakers are people with exceptional results in their respective fields, and are great personalities who understand business trends and can predict the possible future of business.
Who else should you listen to? The truth is we would always have people like that among us. The smartest future business people don't just wait for platforms like 'The Platform' to listen to them, we listen to them Often, and more than listening, we watch them!
I woke up one great morning, though, I didn't do all I usually do that makes my day great, but it was a great morning because that's how I have learnt to see life.
While on my way to work, I kept hearing the voice of 'Les Brown' in my head saying 'You've got to be hungry.' I honestly realised I had not been hungry enough to make a difference in life. I've got so much in me crying for expression, but had allowed money and other factors limited my Ideas and dreams, and left them on paper.
The more I heard Les Brown telling me 'you've got to be hungry', and saw the picture of the Video In my mind of how passionately he said it, the more real it appeared to me that I hadn't done enough to put wheels on the vehicle of my Ideas, and give wings to my dreams.
How hungry are you? Whether you are working somewhere or not, you have no excuse, your business is one of the businesses that will build the economy of this country and the world, start somehow!

Many years ago, an American professor referred to entrepreneurship as “the silent revolution.” This was when the transition from the Industrial to the knowledge worker age became very imperative.
Now, what's a revolution? Maybe I should highlight what a revolution is not first: A revolution is not an Idea, eventhough an Idea can cause a revolution. A revolution is not a dream or ambition, though the two can lead to a revolution. It is also not a sudden change that is effected for immediate gratification.
A revolution is the total turn around of a mundane situation into an adventure that leads to lifetime profiting.
I heard of a man in Oyo State, Nigeria. Who when he hires drivers, gives them a maximum of 2years to start their own business. If after 2years they don't, he fires them.
Imagine if most business owners adopts that approach! We would have less unemployment problems, don't you think so?
Recently, I and a couple of friends drove by the structure of a very big name in the oil industry - when I saw the massive office structure, though I had seen it several times, but, this time, something came to mind, and I told my friends; do you know that structure you're seeing has eaten up many great destinies? buried in there are powerful visions that were never realised, and dreams that never saw the light of destiny.
People who if they had dared to go and start something, would have built businesses bigger than the Oil firm they work in, but can't because they are 'comfortable.'

Retrenchment/downsizing doesn't work for a lot of people as after that, next thing is, they are out looking for the next Job.

Most of my recent articles have stressed the need for you to realign yourself with your business and consistently do that. Don't forget, everyone lives by selling something - And everyone buys once the product is good and is meeting a continuous need.
I believe no matter what business you do, If you think as if there's no box, or, okay! worst case scenario, think out of the box, you can create a product from the business you do that will meet daily consumer needs. That's where the money is!
You will need Bill Gates everyday of your life, Whether he's alive or not. You can't keep Dangote out of your kitchen. Whether you like Mike Adenuga or not, you give him money everyday. No matter how beautiful or expensive your car is, it is grounded without the likes of Femi Otedola.
It's quite simple; Your wealth is determined by how decentralised your business is, no matter how good the product or service.
The choice is yours; you can limit your product to your neighbourhood, Community, Village, City, State, Country, Continent, or make it a global business.

Words: Your real worth in life is the worth of your words. Speaker and Consultant Niyi Adesanya said sometimes ago that a lot of people say 'talk is cheap,' he opined that if talk is cheap, then, the person talking must be cheap too. In other sense, talk is not cheap, it simply depends on who is talking and the content therein.
It is a paradox to have so great a weapon as our words and yet live so defensive, and sometimes defenceless in a world with limitless Opportunities.
Most times, when the chips are down, all we have left with us are our words. But the average man, once he's down emotionally, is down vocally. The wisest people put their vocal power on top gear when things are down.
I can say categorically that behind most business failures are vocal/words failure. No matter what business you do in life as long as it is legal, it is with your words that you can create anything timeless, that can even regularly command the attention of 'Time Magazine.'
I don't think there's any institution that teaches you how to use words. The onus is on every person to believe that words carry very potent creative power, learn how to use them, and actually use them.
If there's any one who needs this truth more, it's business people. We are in a world of entrepreneurs, and entrepreneurs will remain the major power brokers of the global economy.

Ray Kroc worked approximately eighty hours weekly in the start-up years of McDonalds. He had a simply motto; 'Press On.'
In part 1 of this article, Seed 1 is, 'Time.' You sow the seed of time by learning about and building your business. And since time is measured in correlation with life, when you sow your time into anything, you sow your life. And this brings us to the next Seed.

You: The Law of 'Buy-In' in the book ' The 21 Irrefutable Laws of leadership,' by John C. Maxwell, States that people buy-in-to you before they buy-in-to your vision/leadership/business.
One of my mentors, Stephen Akintayo likes to put it this way; 'People don't buy your product, they buy you.' That's like saying when you are not sold out to your business, you are not in your product or service, and, it's more or less a duplicate. So, when people are done buying your product or service, you are out of business.
Let's put it another way; when you venture into a thing in life and leave your heart at home, that thing can't outlive you.
By statistics, about 80 percent of start-up businesses fail in the first 5 years. This statistics is true because a lot of people go into business and their heart is not in it, as a result, they are easily distracted and change course when push comes to shove.
According to medical statistics too, the higher percentage of heart attacks happen Monday mornings while people are on their way or at Jobs they don't like and are very unhappy doing.
Most Entrepreneurs whose business excellence and success is attracting global attention are really not geniuses, they simply give their entire self to what they believe in and do.

As a little boy growing up in an Army Barracks, almost everyone around, my mum inclusive, did all kinds of businesses. Very few had a consistent business as most people did seasonal businesses.
When it was the season of maize, most were in business. When it was cassava time, people were in the garri business, etc.
The major goal back then was survival, so, very few were able to build a lasting business.
Same with most new businesses of today, people rush into business not being mindful of the seed phase of a business.
Almost everything we do in life are seeds. We sow seeds everyday with our words and works.
There is the seed phase of every business, and truth is, the future of a thing is determined by the condition of the seed.
Seed 1
Time: Permit me to define Time as ' an intangible living thing without a mind of its own.' It simply responds to your own mind.
There is life in every time, when you invest time correctly, you maximise the life therein. But, when you waste time, you kill the life in it.
Learning: When you know the business you want to do, one of the best use of time at that level is to spend it learning the business.
Every business/trade has its secrets. You can't beat a man who has learnt his trade.

Speed follows direction and not vice ver-sa. When you know the direction you are going, speed is easy.
If everyone lives by selling something, then, you are in business whether you like it or not. And it's no longer business as usual!
Priority is keeping first things first.
If the business you are about to start or are already doing right now is not in sync with your sincere innate drive/desires, and does not create butterflies in your belly whether there's money in it now or not, you might want to re-evaluate.
When your number one business priority is wrong(money,money,money!), you will work,work,work, and dissipate energy randomly without sustainable success. But, when your number one business priority is right(purpose, purpose, purpose - leading to Impact, impact, impact!), your work will be goal-oriented, performance-driven, and enhance long-term success and fulfillment.
