2 Minutes Business Article . Title: Stewardship In Business
“Money-giving is a good criterion of a person’s mental health. Generous people are rarely mentally ill people.” Dr Karl Menninger
I’m happy when people give me gifts, but I’m happier and feel much fulfilled on the inside when I give.
The giver is usually the greatest receiver, not the one who only receives.
Nothing frees the mind, and enhances mental productivity like the feeling that comes from giving and making remarkable contributions in the lives of others.
A steward is a person employed to manage another’s property, especially a large house or an estate.
To make this easy, let’s just say ‘life has employed you to be a steward of all you own.’
Not all entrepreneurs or business owners agree that they are stewards of their own businesses and everything they possess considering this definition. Some people can be possessive to a fault! Once they are able to build a successful business, they become ‘lords’ and begin to break the laws of life that profoundly applies in business.
Giving Back
Several years ago, Chinese farmers decided they would use the small potatoes from their harvest as seeds and eat the big ones. All the years through which they kept this practice, nature reduced their potatoes to the size of marbles! Those farmers learned in a hard way that one can’t keep the best things of life for self alone and use the leftovers for seeds. They found a new reality to one of life’s fundamental laws.
Call it Charity, Tithe, Social Responsibility, or, Corporate Social Responsibility; it doesn’t matter much what you call it, make sure you set aside a considerable portion of your business profit to give away in meeting the needs of others.
Action Step: Start by giving away some of what you have kept for yourself.
